Leaving Singapore

Right now I am standing at a computer at Changi International Airport in Singapore.  This morning we are flying to India, but part of me is sad that this leg of the journey is over.  I have been so blessed by my time in Singapore... I have been inspired, spurred on and challenged in my walk with God.  Trips like this are such faith builders, and I needed a time like this.

Among other things I feel like God has really allowed me to learn what it means to trust him for everything again.  Of course in my logical brain I always knew this, but living in a western country and 'providing for yourself' persay is certainly different to being completely out of your comfort zone!!

I have also discovered I'm not too bad at the big city thing... I managed to find my way on buses and subways (with some help from my friend David of course!) but it was fun!

India next... what awaits us I dont know.  But I know the God I serve!

Lots of Love

Singapore Day 3 & 4

Hi Again! Its hard to explain in just a few short sentences what God is doing... but He really is amazing. One thing I was really praying for was the with our few days before the Forum that God would have set appointments for us... that we would meet people and really just have amazing fellowship with other believers... God is truely amazing and good.

Last night I went along to my friend David's small group. Its not really that small, but its a group of young people in their 20s from all over singapore who meet together every Tuesday, worship, share the word and pray for each other. There were quite a few people there (about 30?) and afterwards a girl prayed for me... and man it was good! She just prayed some awesome stuff that I feel like God's been talking to me about... it was good :) I didnt get home till midnight, but it was totally worth it! Today was the first day of the World Outreach Youth Mobilization Forum.

We got a bit of an overview of the organisation and their need to be bringing more young people into the missions field - as so many of those in established ministries are over 45! Which is great that they have been serving, but the next generation needs to step up. We had a great intense day of interacting, dreaming up ideas and feeling quite overwhelmed with the task ahead. Tomorrow we are going to just really pray for a while about the direction God wants us to move in... so if your praying for us, please pray that we would hear his voice! We had great ideas today, but really if we aren't moving in God's direction, there is not a whole lot of point to all the wonderful things we could do!

This evening we went to a couples house and prayed with some awesome young woman - they are wanting to start up a program called 'Shine' here in Singapore. This program is a values based program that uses biblical principles to help girls see the worth they have in Jesus. Katie actually facilitates it in Tauranga, and Rebekah (another girl at the forum) has recently been involved in launching it in Vietnam! They group of girls we prayed for are really just starting out - but what an amazing God-meeting, that Katie and Rebekah would be here right when these girls were meeting to start the program. They were able to share the heart of the program with the girls, offer ideas and support for starting it in Singapore! Once again I was blown away by the way God works.

You know when I prayed that God would really use us this trip, it was more out of desperation to justify being here - that I could come back and say that those who have invested in this trip have done so wisely. But really I am so amazed that God, in all his wisdom and goodness, knew a long time ago that this trip was very important! Not just so we could pray and meet other believers and get connections, but that I too could have this time away to get re-focused on who God has asked me to be, and what he wants me to do with my life. My prayer is that He would do this for you too. Ask Him - I know He will answer you. All my love Alicia

Singapore Day 2

Hey Everyone! We had a great day yesterday, we met up with a friend of the Davies who came and worked at camp a few years ago. He took us all over town yesterday, I think we walked almost 7kms!! No kidding. We walked from Little India, to the Esplanade to Chinatown. And with a few detours here and there to try the best Singaporean food!

We ate 'cake' (greyish moosh with a dark red sauce - you could also add chilli's if you wanted!), drank soy milk (well I did cause it tastes like it did in China and I love it!), and also ate 'Almond Paste', which was literally crushed almonds made into some sort of paste. In true Chinese fashion this was meant to be very good for your skin! We also tried Walnut and Peanut Paste (two different ones!) They pretty much tasted like the nut they came from... :)

I have photos of all this but am having some issues uploading them at the moment. After a long day of walking, bussing and MRTing we headed home and pretty much crashed. This morning we are meeting up with the man I talked about at the end of yesterdays blog... he is taking us to breakfast! I am looking forward to what conversations we may have :)

Singapore Day 1

Well we are finally here. I always find it bizarre when I've been getting ready for a trip for quite a while and suddenly its happening!! We arrived in Singapore just after 7pm last night and my friend David met us at the airport and we took the MRT (train) and then a taxi to where we are staying. Yesterday I was awake for a total of 22 hours. We got up about 5.30am and left for Auckland at 6.30am. Our flight left NZ at 12.30pm and we got to Singapore 11hrs later! Insaine day :) This morning we got up and got on the bus David had told us would take us to Church. We kinda didnt know where to get off, and I silently prayed that maybe David would get on our bus. We had already passed the stop he would get on at, but about 10mins after I prayer... guess who got on our bus!!! It was so funny because I had just been talking to Wayne and Katie about how God was challenging me to really believe and trust him for the prayers that I was praying. Infact two days ago I prayed that an infection on Wayne's arm would heal as we got onto the plane in NZ. He showed it to me on the bus and it looked pretty amazing!! Sorry this post is kind of jumping around but I want to share some of the cool bits... Last night on the MRT I was telling David about a lady I met in Cambodia last year and how before I left NZ one night I remembered meeting her and that she lived in Singapore. I couldn't figure out where I had put her email address... and we talked about how impossible it would be to find her. Well this morning at David's church, two rows in front of us was Denise - the lady I had met in January last year in Cambodia! The church service was great, the pastor preached very strongly about the call for God - calling us to salvation, but also the cry from below, the cry of those who are separated from God. It was a great service, an amazing time of worship together and just waiting on God. I so enjoyed being in a place where people were really sensitive to what God was doing and how he was leading the service. The prayed out two missionaries, a family and a young woman. In my heart I realised I was being awakened... the lost need to hear! So often I think we sleep in our churches... We met an amazing couple after church, the wife Lily has muscle dystrophy and we were able to pray with them. Before I left NZ I had asked a friend to pray for 'sweet communion that we have with other believers - no matter where we are from'. Well I can totally testify that that has totally been happening. After church we went to a big mall, had lunch, caught a shuttle to China town (where I felt quite at home - lol) and got home about an hour ago. Its fun being with Katie and Wayne - they make friends with people wherever we go!! I am challenged and encouraged by them! Please pray that we would continue to have God appointments, that we would be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit, and bold to speak His words in and out of season. Check out the photos next to this post. Love you all! PS - God is so amazing.... I cant believe how he is just answering my prayers... even little things! Last night we were leaving our hostel (its a salvation army place) and a service of chinese men finished as were walked out of the lift. This man started to talk to us... He goes to a local church and they run a service for Chinese migrant workers who come here to do construction. They are from north china, all farmers who come for a few years... anyway they bus them here, give them dinner, cut their hair and share Jesus with them... some of the men have been becoming christians, and will go home to their farming towns where no foreigner would probably be able to go!!!!!!! WOWWOWOWOW!!! Lol. We prayed for him and then exchanged details and he wants us to meet a pastor man who is flying in from the Phillippians on Tuesday... so we agreed! I know I shouldnt be surprised, but God is pretty amazing the way he is setting stuff up! I need so much courage not to loose this - to go home and actually do something with the fire and burden for the lost that has increased so much in my heart!

6 sleeps to go...

Well life has been pretty insane recently... I was in Queenstown last weekend for work... it was absolutley beautiful and I will add the photos at the bottom of this post.

I had a really cool moment while I was down there.  I've been looking for a small NLT bible for quite a while now.  I even ordered one online but it turned out they were out of stock and it was out of print.  It was quite a speific Bible I was hoping to find... small and slim (not small and thick), soft bound but not paper, and hopefully with some pink on it!  Kind of silly really, but I didnt want to take my big NLT study Bible with me, or my smaller NIV one.  So I'd kind of been looking and praying.

As we were coming over the mountains into Queenstown I suddenly realised that I had forgotten my Bible!  I was so gutted!!  It was like I'd forgotten my cellphone or something even more important than that!  We went to the Christian Bookshop, but they didnt have anyway.  To cut a long story short they got an order in and the lady called me and I got to choose between 4 cute small pink NLT Bibles!!  Then she wanted to pray for me... I was just such a cool moment and I felt so blessed!!

In 6 sleeps I will be getting on the plane to Singapore with Katie and Wayne.  Its very exciting!!  Please pray that I will have good stuff to contribute to the youth missions forum!

Getting ready for India

So.... last night as I was packing for my Queenstown trip today, I finally had a chance to try on the outfit I've been given for when we are in India.

Getting ready for India 014

Aint I cute?!  Lol!  I still look very white and very blonde.  I hadnt thought I would need to wear quite this, but a friend said I would feel uncomfortable if I was just wearing western clothes.  It took me a bit to get over the whole change of style thing, but once I had this on I was so comfortable and felt quite feminine :)  Lol!!!  I'm ready to embrace India!

I am getting quite excited about the trip - we have booked accomodation in Singapore and the Forum is going to be very good!  I am praying that I will have benefical things to add to the discussion and that God would really work in my heart in terms of my involvement in this ministry in the coming years.  And then as we head to India... this is going to be exciting and challenging in such a different way!  Katie's Mum has a business breakfast who have raised fund for a rickshaw and the ministry we are visiting in Chennai is organising the purchasing of this and the family to which it will be given.  We will meet them (lord willing) as well as see the ministry Colleen Redit does there.  The Prayer conference we are heading too is also exciting - Katie and I will be doing the worship and also spending the afternoon with the kids and working with them for the night sessions where they will lead the prayer!

I will certainly be stretched in many ways!

But today I am off to Queenstown for five days.  On Monday night I have been asked to bring the devotion at the Executive Board Meeting for Christian Camping New Zealand (whom I work for).

Cya laters...
